Figure 1 shows the map of US states and the density of IMGs who are practicing physicians.  As you can see, the greatest density of IMGs practicing medicine are in the northeast - New York, New Jersey, West Virginia and Massachusetts, Florida, and Nevada. For the rest of the states refer to the map, with the darkest blue being the most dense states (26 to 40%) and the white being the states where the percentage of practicing IMG physicians is less than 12%.


Remember that these are different from states that are IMG friendly for residency purposes, this distinction is important because training in one state is different form practicing in it. At the end of your residency training you may move to another state, look to change your H1 visa to a green card or look for opportunities for J1 waiver.
